A collective batting performance powered Delhi Capitals (DC) to a strong total of 188/5 in their allotted 20 overs after being asked to bat first by Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi.
Openers Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abhishek Porel got DC off to a lively start with a few early boundaries. However, Jofra Archer ended their 34-run opening stand by dismissing Fraser-McGurk for 9(6). Soon after, Karun Nair was sent back without scoring, courtesy of a joint effort from Wanindu Hasaranga and Sandeep Sharma.
Despite the early hiccups, KL Rahul and Abhishek Porel steadied the innings. The pair added a vital 63-run stand for the third wicket before Archer struck again, removing Rahul for a well-compiled 38 off 32 balls. Porel, who looked solid, fell just short of a half-century, getting out for 49(37) to Hasaranga in the 14th over.
The finishing touches came from Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs, who played explosive cameos to lift DC to a challenging total. Axar smashed 34 off just 14 balls, hitting four boundaries and two sixes, while Stubbs remained unbeaten on 34 from 18 deliveries, providing crucial momentum in the death overs.
A win today would see DC bounce back from their recent defeat against Mumbai Indians and potentially reclaim the top spot on the IPL 2025 points table. Rajasthan Royals, currently battling inconsistency after a heavy loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, will be desperate to turn their fortunes around and gain momentum in the tournament.
