IPL T20 NEWS : Jindal, following their narrow loss to Mumbai Indians. The 33-year-old responded to an April 14 post from Jindal, who had expressed his disappointment over a tough weekend—highlighting defeats in both the ISL final (for Bengaluru FC) and the IPL.
Jindal wrote, “Not the greatest of weekends for us—losing the ISL Cup final after being the better team and then losing to MI when in control. However, got to watch the most brilliant knock by Karun Nair. Don’t think I’ve seen anyone play better against [Jasprit] Bumrah. These types of weekends make you realise that in sport, nothing is certain. We’ll work harder and be back stronger.”
In a humble reply, Nair said: “Thank you so much Parth. Sorry I couldn’t finish the game off.”
Nair had scored a stunning 89 off 40 balls, earning praise despite the team’s defeat.
Tough Week for Parth Jindal as Both Bengaluru FC and Delhi Capitals Fall Short
It’s been a week of heartbreaks for Parth Jindal, founder of JSW Sports, which owns both Indian Super League (ISL) side Bengaluru FC and IPL franchise Delhi Capitals.
On April 12, Jindal watched his football team, Bengaluru FC, suffer a dramatic 1-2 defeat to Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the ISL Final at Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium. The match went into extra time, where Jamie Maclaren netted a late winner in the sixth minute of extra time, crushing Bengaluru’s hopes of lifting the title.
Just days later, in the IPL, Delhi Capitals were handed a painful loss by Mumbai Indians, despite a stellar 89-run knock from Karun Nair. Jindal expressed his emotions on social media, calling it a tough weekend but commending Nair’s exceptional innings, especially against ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah.
In a heartfelt reply, Nair responded: “Thank you so much Parth. Sorry I couldn’t finish the game off.”
Just a day after the ISL heartbreak, Delhi Capitals fell short against Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Batting first, MI posted an imposing 205/5, powered by a well-constructed 59 off 33 balls from Tilak Varma, a solid 41 from 25 by Ryan Rickelton, and a fiery 38 off 17 by Naman Dhir.
In response, DC managed 193 all out, falling short by 12 runs in what turned out to be a closely contested chase. The standout for Delhi was Karun Nair, who made a spectacular return to the IPL after a two-year absence. Playing his first match since 2022, Nair lit up the stadium with a sensational 89 off just 40 balls, keeping DC in the hunt till the very end.
One of the most eye-catching moments of Karun Nair’s innings was his fearless assault on Jasprit Bumrah, widely regarded as one of the best bowlers in world cricket.
Facing Bumrah in his very first over, Nair set the tone early by dispatching him for two boundaries, showing no signs of rust despite his IPL comeback. He wasn’t done there — in Bumrah’s next over, Nair went into overdrive, hammering two sixes and a four, racking up 18 runs off the over and putting immense pressure back on Mumbai’s ace pacer.
It was a statement of intent and a reminder of Nair’s class on the big stage.
Despite Karun Nair’s explosive knock, Delhi Capitals faltered in the final moments, with three run-outs in the penultimate over derailing what seemed like a promising chase. The late collapse proved costly, as DC fell short by 12 runs against Mumbai Indians.
Nevertheless, the Capitals remain in strong form, currently topping the IPL 2025 points table with 10 points from six matches — winning five of them. Their focus now shifts to their next big test as they travel to Ahmedabad to take on the Gujarat Titans on Saturday, April 19.
